Monika: "Music That Makes Me Dance" is a 1964 song from the musical “Funny Girl”, music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Bob Merrill. The plot is based on the life and career of Broadway, film star and comedienne Fanny Brice and her stormy relationship with entrepreneur and gambler Nick Arnstein. The cast included Barbra Streisand. Given Barbra’s acting in the musical, I do not probably have to ask you why you chose this song? :)
Allison: As you know, Barbra is my Idol! I got the Broadway soundtrack of "Funny Girl" back then and fell in love with that song. I do her 1999 release "A Love Like Ours" CD version. I sang it for my long time friends, Brian and Daniel at my gig in May. It's their favorite song... They are getting married in Washington State on Oct 5th 2013.
Monika: The song was also performed by Liza Minnelli (my favourite cover). Have you seen her interpretation?
Allison: Yes, I love Liza too, but it will always be a "Barbra" song to me.
Allison: "He'll sleep and he'll rise. In the light of two eyes that adore him. Bore him it might But he won't leave my sight for a glance."
Monika: What do you think about the musical?
Allison: I never saw the Broadway version (I was about 7 years old!) but I fell in love with the movie version. I was 13 years old the first time I watched it and sat through two showings of the movie in the theater...
Monika: What is the beautiful red dress you wear?
Allison: It was a dress lent to me by one of my Drag Performer friends... I thought it too revealing... (blush).
